ok, have a client with a website called 'face of tomorrow", what he does is make composite images from hundreds of face photos from a particular city. Now we are debating the correct turkish translation of this term, in particular whether to use "cehresi" or "yüz", as in "Yar?n?n Çehresi". Your thoughts?

-çehre means "a human face" and nothing else, whereas "yüz" has other meanings (almost all the meanings of the English "face", plus it means "hundred"), of course a Turkish speaker would discern the correct contextual meaning at once -almost always- but still... "çehre" is more specific, and even more important than that: it signifies the "identity" aspect of a human face.

-if you say "yarının yüzü" it might be taken at the first instance -and especially if the faces are not there to see at first- to mean something like "the aspect our life will have taken on tomorrow"; plural usage, "yarının yüzleri" may help you avoid this confusion though... maybe...

-in any case, i want to suggest plural usage: "yarının çehreleri" or "yarının yüzleri", instead of "~ çehresi" or "~ yüzü". It's hard to explain, but singular versions don't sound good to me. ("yarının yüzü" also sounds like an intro for a new star, top model, etc -> claudia schiffer is "yarının yüzü" - now she can only be the senior face of tomorrow , though :-)

-however, if there will be other and longer texts in the site where the word "face" will take place a lot, using "çehre" all the time may sound awkward. You may want to keep this in mind before finally deciding. In that case, using "yüz" may be safer. There are two other words for face in Turkish, in case you hear of them later on and wonder, "surat" and "sima", but i think both would be inappropriate in your context - at least "surat" absolutely would.

-one more thing which you didn't ask for sure :-)) please upload the page in turkish characters; if you type it as "yarinin yüzü/çehresi/whatever", it becomes "the face of your darling".

just some thoughts at 4 a.m., i'm curious to know what other colleagues will have to say on this; tough question, indeed, even i may change my mind by tomorrow ;-)

i\'m afraid i got you wrong; so there won\'t be hundreds of faces, but one composite face made up of hundreds of faces? in this case, please ignore my suggestion about the plural usage.

\"çehre\" again sounds better in singular; i mean, \"yarının çehresi\" sounds better, but... if there will be any reference to \"hundreds of faces\" in the text, then this may give you a nice opportunity for word play: hundreds of faces = yüzlerce yüz

It is not possible to participate in the comment that “çehre means “a human face”, since it has 16 meanings along with the word “face”.

Using "yarının çehreleri" or "yarının yüzleri", instead of "yarının çehresi" or "yarının yüzü" may not be correct, since, although a city may have many appearances in the future, it shall have one single appearance in a given time.
