Afrikaans to English translations [PRO]
Afrikaans term or phrase: Mkumbura River
need phonetic spelling of Mkumbura River
kim
English translation:Not Afrikaans, probably mm-koom-BOO-chaah.
Explanation:
The word "Mkumbura" is certainly not Afrikaans. It may be any of a number of African languages, though. Most of the Bantu African languages pronounces the vowels fairly similarly, but that "r" is going to be a messy one. It can be pronounced "r" as in English, or it can be pronounced "ch" as in the Scottich or German "ch". The "m" in front is regarded as a separate sound grouping. Hence, pronounced possibly "mm-koom-BOO-ch.aah" (all vowels are short, but their sounds approximate the longer English ones).
