livestock Explanation: "بالشدة على الواو" In Steingass A Learner's Arabic-English Dictionary the word - سَوَّامَة - sawwa:ma is translated as: "cattle". سوامات can be a plural form of - سَوَّامَة - sawwa:ma. In the Munjid the 'cattle' is given as - سوام sawa:m (without the shadda) or سائمة sa:`ima in the same meaning. The both forms have the same plural form - سوائم sawa:`im (but there are no infomation about a regular feminine plural). R. Dozy in his Supplement aux Dictionnaires Arabes translates the word - سَوَّامَة - sawwa:ma as "champ, pièce de terre labourable" that is: 'field' or 'area of cultivation'. This is also possible.
