Dear Mona,

You are translating literally, but you have to understand the terms in English to be able to tell which is which. In Arabic there is something called امتياز and if you score higher depending on the University they consider it مع مرتبة الشرف. This means مرتبة الشرف is higher than امتياز.

In Western universities, you can be an honors student without a distinction. So not all honors students acquire a distinction.

So really, in practice honors is امتياز and distinction is مرتبة الشرف. Even though it does not literally translate to it, but practically that is what is being used. So honors by itself would be امتياز.
