full sentence with explanation Explanation: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3097809/ A 34-year-old nulliparous woman presented with sudden onset of severe abdominal pain On admission she was pale (Hb 9.4g/dl) with a large firm, tender and fixed pelvic mass corresponding to 36-week gravid uterus. Urine pregnancy test and serum tumour markers were negative. A clinical diagnosis of twisted ovarian cyst was made. Contrast enhanced spiral CT scan of the thorax, abdomen and pelvis revealed an enlarged lobulated uterus with a large (17.1 x 16.0 x 20 cm) fairly oval central hypodense lesion (30 – 70 HU) stretching the myometrium (Figure 1). Uterus - normal [we usually write: of normal size and shape], presence of hypodense zone in the body [the uterus is divisible into two portions: body and cervix, the body inside is the uterine cavity] , corresponding 18/14 mm without dynamics, compered with the previous CT performed on 26 March 2012 -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2017-05-03 20:03:35 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Unlike ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) is not generally indicated as the first line imaging technique in the study of female pelvic pathology. However, CT is often used to evaluate nongynecological pelvic pathology, in the emergency department or in a follow-up context, in which the pelvic organs are encompassed. In these situations, the contrast enhancement pattern of the uterine body and cervix may be difficult to interpret and may simulate pathology, given the wide spectrum of enhancement patterns, anatomic variations and underlying pathology Which means that even if the findings show no dymanics in growth, it is worth to ask for a second opinion to avoid any unpleasant surprises (personal opinion and experience) -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2017-05-03 20:03:55 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- dynamics, sorry -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2017-05-03 20:04:14 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- http://webcir.org/revistavirtual/articulos/2017/1_febrero/pt... |
