berm Explanation: weighted berm statically weighted berm dynamically weighted berm As in: The Bureau of Reclamation awarded a $432,790 construction contract to Zygotech, Inc. of Richland, Wash., to make modifications at Wasco Dam near Maupin, Oregon, in order to correct safety problems. Some of the modifications include: constructing an interceptor trench through foundation materials to bedrock, providing filter and drainage elements, and constructing a weighted berm along much of the downstream toe of the dam. In addition, the upstream overflow weir in the gate structure will be modified to ensure that winter elevations of Clear Lake Reservoir do not exceed 3511 feet. The construction period coincides with the normal seasonal drawdown of Clear Lake Reservoir. The reservoir will be drawn down to elevation 3498 feet by the first of September and remain at that level until work is complete in early November. The other word for 'berm' is beach-ridge (Dictionary of Physical Geography). In case of artificial structures, berm is used. Hope it helps Reference: http://www.pn.usbr.gov/news/99new/wasco.html |
