Catalan term

risc pais

Catalan to English Bus/Financial Economics
ORIGINAL:

"Aquest fet podria ser indicatiu que, en l’àmbit de l’EU27, elements com ara la pertinença o no a l’Euro o l’ortodòxia financera del sector públic podrien ser els causants de la generació d’un ***risc país** que, finalment, expliqués les diferències en taxes d’inversió dins l’EU27 i generés efectes diferencials de creixement"

When I first came across this term "risc pais" - I thought it was a missprint. However the term is used several times in subsequent paragraphs.

Anyone come across the term before?

country risk / country-specific risk

Hi, Berni. It's no doubt a calque of the Spanish term "riesgo país", which means "country risk". I've also seen it as "country-specific risk".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Country_risk

A couple of examples:

"These internal ratings take into consideration factors such as any deterioration in country risk, industry, and technological obsolescence, as well as identified structural weaknesses or deterioration in cash flows."

http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:C:2...

"After coming under pressure late last year, the peso has been appreciating again in recent months and capital inflows have resumed, while yields and country risk have stabilized near pre-crisis levels."

I'd like to add that the correct term in Catalan is "risc de país".
