Catalan term or phrase: qui dia passa, any empeny
The boy doesn't like washing (it's not showering because we're in the '50s/'60s) properly before going to school and his mum threatens him saying:

Does anyone know an equivalent in English?

Thank you all in advance.

taking things one day at a time...

But, taking things one day at a time, he...

I can't thing of any equivalent pithy saying.

I think the idea is the "optimistic" one below:

Qui dia passa, any empeny

I guess your general problem is that there seem to be a lot more of these refranys in Catalan and they seem to be more widely used (whereas these things tend to sound like clichés in English even when there are equivalents!
