Catalan to English translations [PRO]
Medical - Medical (general) / Names of tests and procedures on a medical chart
Catalan term or phrase: Cultiu RBA/BAS
Medical chart of a patient in treatment for pneumonia and sepsis, among other diseases.

Cultiu RBA/BAS: (+) per Citrobacter koseri. Citologia negativa.

BAS is presumably bronchoaspiration (at least it's the only logical option I've found so far), but I can't figure out what RBA could be in this context. Thanks in advance.

A negative tracheobronchial aspirate culture has a high negative predictive value, so that a negative culture in a patient not receiving antimicrobial treatment essentially excludes VAP. Quantitative cultures of protected specimen brush (PSB) and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) specimens obtained through a bronchoscope have also been used to diagnose VAP. In nonintubated patients, PSB and BAL techniques have shown a high specificity for the diagnosis of NP. In mechanically ventilated patients with suspected VAP, the following observations have been made:

(1) PSB and BAL are of comparable diagnostic value;

(2) tracheobronchial aspirates have comparable results with PSB and BAL, but have lower specificity;

This "RBA" abbv. is bothering me too.

They only give a local anaesthesia at the back of the throat when they are taking samples from the lungs.

Here is another "RBA", but I cannot access the site very easily, maybe you can:

"RBA" could even be a typo for "LBA"...lavado broncoalveolar
