Catalan to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering
Catalan term or phrase: urbà, periurbà, rururbà i voraurbà
It speaks of "tipologies espacials" in urban planning. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

English translation:urban to rural...
Explanation:
urbà, periurbà, rururbà i voraurbà

Most of these are not in my Institut d'Estudis Dic, but their meaning is fairly clear. It's just a Q of using the right words in English. I suggest the following:

tipologies espacials
Planning zone types*:

Urban area(s)
Suburban area(s)
Built-up rural area(s)?
Adjacent area(s)

This is guesswork, ideas, given the difficulty posed by the similarity between the 2nd and the 4th. From your text, it may become obvious that, e.g. they are moving out, within an expanding circle that starts at the centre of town.

*This is a guess, but given that they do in fact establish 'tipologies', by implication they are 'planning zones', which is the term used in English.

I'm going to see if I come up with anything on the internet, and will return if I find anything.

urban periphery

Explanation:
I found very little.

'Peri-urban' exists as an adjective. The noun is the 'urban periphery'

Any search for rural-urban overlapped the above!

I suggest that the 2nd is 'urban periphery' and the 4th is 'suburbs'.

For the 3rd, I cannot think of an alternative. They all seem to overlap so!

urban, suburban, rurban, ?

Explanation:
"rururbà -ana adj
es rururbano
fr rurbain
en rurban
<Urbanisme>
Dit de l'àrea, l'espai, etc., que combina característiques pròpies del camp i característiques pròpies de la ciutat.
Formes desestimades: rurbà -ana"

is what the neoloteca has for "rururbà", but there are no entries for "periurbà" or "voraurbà", nor are there any in the GDLC. A Google search on "periurbà" gives 53 hits, on "voraurbà", none.
