Czech term or phrase: ubírat

This is a term that occured in a literary text, the main character is explaining the process of rolling blooms and I can´t seem to find any czech-croatian technical dictionaries where I could find the right term.

The sentence:

Dunivé přírazy válcovacích stolic, když tlustý ocelový sochor vjede mezi pracovní válce a ony ho, normální člověk by řekl zplacatí, ale oceláři říkají -ubírají-, a v té chvíli spustí vodní chladicí trysky a horká štěrbina, v níž se to všechno děje,...
