Democratic Spain Friends' Society in Prague Explanation: . -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2 hrs (2006-07-26 00:47:40 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Founded on November 3, 1937 to support the democratic forces in Spain Civil War. Dissolved on March 15, 1939 when Nazi Germany started their occupation of Czechia, Moravia, and Silesia. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 day9 hrs (2006-07-27 07:25:23 GMT) Post-grading -------------------------------------------------- You're welcome. I can only translate a few pieces of information found via Google: It was headed by doc. (associate professor) J. Fischer. Before gaining its legal status of Society/Association it existed in the form of a Help Democratic Spain Committee, which was founded on October 22, 1936 by uniting 50 local groups. That same day, about 2500 Czecho-Slovak volunteers (anti-fascists) joined the international brigades (two thirds of them died in the civil war). All this happened while the Czechoslovak government joined the policy of non-interference with the Spanish Civil War on August 21, 1936, and the Czechoslovak Republic became a member of the International Committee for the Control of Non-intervention (constituted on September 9, 1936). |
