Czech term or phrase: what Natonality wouldthe Name Zehar be from?
This is my Husbands' last Name and we have no idea what natonality his fathers' side of the family was from.

zzz Other zzz translation:Zehar
Explanation:
"Zehar" seems to be a Basque word (a variety of Spanish): "ZEHAR (through...)
already foreseen... through Zeharka you (crossed) .
"Murru year zehar pasatu da" (it passed through the wall)
"Mundu year zehar joan Zen" (it had gone throughout the world)"

However, I don't know where you live, but if in America, please read the following:

"At peak times, as many as 15,000 per day would arrive (East and Central European Jews) on Ellis Island, 'the isle of tears'. Here the authorities checked the papers, the physical condidtions of the new arrivals, and then their material circumstances. Finally, each name was checked against the ship's papers. This was when many new Americans acquired a new identity at the hand of ill-educated immigration officials. Names like Ouspenska would become Spensky, Nisnyevich would become Nissen. Warned of this, some made the change in advance. One immigrant named Ostazzinski met a man named Frankelstein on the ship from Russia. Frankelstein, so the story goes, said: 'Those immigration officials will change your name into O'Shaughnessy. You'd better change it. Take mine.' But Ostazzinski thought Frankelstein too long, so he took half of it - and the family became Stein."
This is from a book called "The story of English".

Thus, "Zehar" could have been "Rehar" - this seems to be Slovenian.
