En bølget linie mellem akkordnoderne viser retningen af arpeggiotoners bevægelse i ned- eller opadgående orden svarende til den længde, som angives af akkordnoderne. Instrumentets hovedfunktion er udførelsen af arpeggioakkorder, som giver orkesterets klang mere kolorit.
