I would call it play,

Do not screw too tight; allow a little play between the parts.

Or: If screws work loose, the play in the joint will cause unnecessary wear.

Or, since play is not always undesirable:
Adjust the endplay between the U-joint and the outdrive bushing. First, loosen the U-joint from the prop shaft and make sure that the prop is threaded completely onto the prop shaft. Secure it with the set screw. Now, position the U-joint on the prop shaft so that there is just a small amount of play from the prop shaft. Then, secure it with the set screw in the U-joint. If you find there is excessive play, placing shims between the prop and the outdrive will help (see photo below).
