Explanation:
A "Naamloze Vennootschap" (N.V.) in the Netherlands is a (listed) public limited liability company. In Belgium, on the other hand, an NV is not necessarily a public company.

A partnership founded in the form/shape of a joint-stock company


Explanation:
Even though certain dictionaries translate it as 'limited liability company', I don't agree
as this is the translation of a 'BVBA', een Besloten Vennootschap met Beperkte Aansprakelijkheid, which is quite different from a 'Naamloze Vennootschap' (NV - in French: Société Anonyme (SA)). At least in Belgium (I don't know about The Netherlands).

For starters a BVBA in Belgium needs a registered capital of only 750.000,-BEF, whereby a NV needs to have 2.500.000,-BEF (used to be 1.250.000,-BEF).

Anyhow, a 'joint-stock company' or even an 'Anonymous Company' would be a better translation.
A 'Naamloze Vennootschap' in Belgium can indeed go public but doesn't necessarily have to do so.

In short, I'd go for a 'partnership founded in the form/shape of a joint-stock company'
