Since my neighbour is an expert, working in this area, as a Planner for the top Railway Developing companies (he's been at it a number of years), I thought I'd ask him for you.

I did not want to post Dry Run as that was mentioned in the discussion, only thing is I couldn't post, for some reason, in the discussion, anyhow, Static Test or Dry Run is, according to my neighbour, correct. I am not interested in the point thing/game here, I just wanted to tell you what I learned.

His first reply: Het is een 'oude praktijk-term' om zonder ingebruikname van het totaal-systeem toch e.e.a. te kunnen gebruiken of testen.

Een statische test/of "static test" is iets wat hier in de buurt komt qua vertaling.

My reply: dry run, ik weet niet of dat de goede term is, het geeft het niet goed genoeg aan, statisch test, dat geloof ik wel, maar met het nachecken zag ik dat het een term is wat gebruikt wordt in verband met software testen.

His second reply: Een collega herinnert zich dat bij oud treinmaterieel "droogschakel" knop heeft gehanteerd.
Destijds was er veel "gerommel en gesis" te horen. Dus veel pneumatische schakelaars ging in werking (dus niet specifiek software, maar ook mechanisch).

Je suggestie van "Dry run" lijkt ons zodoende passend.

Asker: Wow Terry, I really appreciate that! Based on an earlier recommendation of Michael Beijer and after having read the whole 20.000 words I just came to the same conclusion. The whole text describes a dry run and has got nothing to do with 'switching'. Your friend's expertise gives me extra confidence.
