Dutch term or phrase: pleegzuster
I need, or at least certainly would like, to distinguish between 'pleegzusters' (nurses; often nuns, or otherwise religious, but not always), 'verpleegsters' (nurses) and 'verpleegkundigen' (nurses).

I'm wondering if I could translate '(pleeg)zusters' as 'sisters', or are (and were) sisters always head nurses?

I hope that's enough context. The document is about the history of nursing, particularly in the Netherlands.

Any advice appreciated.

Reference: foster nurse

Reference information:
Actually, in reference to the information I found, the term foster sister is usually used for a girl: sister to another sibling being brought up by the same foster parent.

Foster nurse would be more appropriate for verpleegzuster.
