Dutch to English translations [PRO]
Other / Tropenrooster
Dutch term or phrase: Tropenrooster
De zin is:
Als het te heet is, ga korter werken of stel een tropenrooster in.

Ik kom tropenrooster tegen als: tropics grid en tropics roster.
Tropics grid lijkt me onzin maar tropics roster weet ik ook niet zeker.
Kan iemand mij uit de brand helpen?
(Komt uit een brochure met guidelines voor werken in extreme hitte.)
Alvast bedankt.

neutral  Michael Beijer: Kind of makes it sound like the schedule itself is tropical. I’m not so sure I would use this. / Agree with Freek: 'Tropic Schedule' isn’t English.

neutral  freekfluweel: Try googling first, no such thing as "tropic schedule"... and you made the mistake twice!

neutral  Natasha Ziada (X): Too literal - both tropical and tropic

Modified work schedule (hier)

Explanation:
Another option.

Since this term is not normally used in English (as far as I know - even in scorching Australia) I would simply retain the meaning of the term: a work schedule that's adapted to hot weather. Linguistically the 'hot weather' part is not necessary, and to me sounds a bit chunky, since the hot conditions are already specified in the first part of the sentence.

See: https://www.osha.gov/SLTC/heatillness/heat_index/pdfs/all_in... (p. 6)

neutral  freekfluweel: Logischerwijs heb je gelijk maar dan had er in de ST wel "aangepast werkrooster" gestaan.../Avoiding "hot" twice: "By high temperatures the hot-weather schedule will..."

-> In Dutch there is this specific term that - to my knowledge - doesn't exist in English

agree  Michael Beijer: I agree, hot conditions are already specified in the first part of the sentence: ‘Als het te heet is, . . . ’ / Using 'hot' again in the same sentence is indeed rather clunky so this might actually be the best solution yet.
