This means that the "drempel" that you are talking about is the clearance allowed for additional cushions.

You could perhaps say "clearance for additional seating"

agree  J. Leo (X): This seating can be thick enough to require various position changes suited to the person's specific ergonomic needs. The clearance could mean, as you say, lots of things: repositioning the knees, the height of arm rests, etc.
