Een stadsmerk is er niet en het zilver wordt maar sporadisch gekeurd. Toch is de kwaliteit prima: een aantal stukken gaan een tijd lang door voor Luiks zilver. Maar na de Franse Revolutie gaat het bergaf. Porselein en kristal verdringen zilver, en de concurrentie van Duitse zilversmeden is moordend. Er worden **keurkamers** ingevoerd en de zilversmeden moeten voortaan een merkteken aanbrengen. Twee zilversmeden hebben een heel gevarieerd oeuvre: Jacques Vinckenbosch en zijn opvolger Jan Leonard Philippen.
