Science - Botany / lycopene content of tomatoes
Dutch term or phrase: zuiver natuurlijke veredeling
Tomatoes get their red colour from lycopene, a disease-fighting antioxidant. A new tomato variety has a particularly high content. What's the best way to interpret this phrase? purely natural selection?

purely natural amelioration

A study designed to determine the effect of pre-plant nutrient additions to a peat/vermiculite transplant medium showed that phosphorus (P) may play a role in the **amelioration** of the budless condition in tomato (Table 1).

While several research initiatives focus on **strain amelioration** and better biofuel productivity for light- and CO2-capturing microorganisms, some prefer to imagine the development of totally new, artificial cells, designed just for this purpose.
