6.2. Reduction of working hours (ADV)
Teachers in the Netherlands have been entitled to ADV (arbeidsduurverkoring = shorter working hours) since 1-8-1985. This means that a permanent teacher replaces the normal class teacher for a morning, a day or a week. Full-time teachers are entitled to 14 days ADV per school year.
On 1-8-1994, the 'BAPO' rule was also introduced, entitling those teachers ages 52/56 years who meet certain requirements to an additional reduction in working hours if they so wish.
