In my view, the words 'in the balance sheet' are superfluous since gooodwill is an (intangible) asset and cannot therefore be amortised or written off anywhere else than where it is recorded, namely in the balance sheet.

This is the general term used for "afschrijving", although thiqs is usuazlly divbided into two kinds of write-off:

a) materiële activa = depreciation
en
b) imateriële activa = amortization
