Dutch term or phrase: landrechter
This is a title I found in a birth certificate from Djakarta. I can't find it in any of the Dutch - English dictionaries or the Legal Lexicon. The "Landrechter" signed the legalisation of a signature on the birth certificate", so he has legalising powers. Any suggestions? Many thanks!
Willemina
Signed by Mr.... Landrechter (district judge)
Explanation:
In Nederland was de term landrechter in elk geval al in 1793 in gebruik.
Zie:
'...benoemd tot landrechter van Schouwen'
in
http://members.home.nl/m.v.boven/zierikze.htm

Werd later gebruikt als titel voor o.m. koloniale ambtenaren en zo vermeld in o.m. het stamboek der Indische Ambtenaren : 'landrechter bij het Landgerecht in Batavia' (begin 20ste eeuw)
in
www.antenna.nl/~~daktari/kw-iha.htm
en
www.kb.nl/infolev/ing/rgp/werkbest/bwn/lemmata/blom-t.htm

Daar het hier een specifieke (oud-)nederlandse titel betreft, zou ik dit niet vertalen (leave it as such) en gewoon tussen haakjes bv. 'district judge' vermelden.
