Dutch to English translations [PRO]
Dutch term or phrase: directie & bestuur
I have a general question about these two terms - they have puzzled me for some time, and I was wondering whether anybody can identify the difference(s) between the two.

Many thanks for your help!

directie = management
Explanation:
directie = management
bestuur = board of directors

Indeed quite puzzling/confusing from time to time.
The management of a company = de 'directie' or 'het management' van een bedrijf
The 'bestuur van een bedrijf' refers to the members of the Board of Directors, who are usually also the main shareholders. They are the ones looking over the shoulders of the managers; t.i. they appoint the general manager and are acting on behalf of the shareholders (often themselves), thus they are the actual controllers (often owners) of the company.
Managers ('de directie') receive a salary and have to render an account of whatever they're doing.

I hope my explanation is clear; if not, I'll try again tomorrow:-)
