Dutch to English translations [PRO]
Dutch term or phrase: speksnijbonen & boterbonen
I am currently translating a website for a producer of organic produce, and am having trouble with translating "speksnijboon" and "boterboon".

Is there a difference between a "speksnijboon" and a "snijboon"?

All suggestions welcome - KudoZ points will be awarded asap.

Thanks,

English translation:French beans for slicing, waxpod bean
Explanation:
Snijbonen are also called spekbonen and speksnijbonen. It's just a larger variety of French beans (Phaseolus vulgaris var.) which needs to be sliced as the beans are not so tender.
Boterboon is a very tender variety of Phaseolus vulgaris and is called waxpod bean or, less common, butter bean in English.

Runner beans and butter beans

Explanation:
I looked it up in the "Van Dale Groot Woordenboek der Nederlandse Taal" and it gave no explanation for speksnijbonen. However, it did give the explanation of "spek" for another type of bean and it meant that the bean is big with a soft pod, so it is a certain species of bean. I remember years ago, when I was young, my grandparents used to grow speksnijbonen, so they do exist. I hope this is helpful.
