Dutch to English translations [PRO]
Dutch term or phrase: ...,dat ik de besprekingen
The full sentence is 'Het is gewoon onmogelijk dat X enige schadevergoeding zou ontvangen hebben, gewoon omdat hij bediende was, dat ik de besprekingen voerde en het zo was dat wij beiden moesten tekenen bij betalingen.'
I'm not sure of the meaning of the 'dat' in this context.

English translation:wrong language pair
Explanation:
I'm sorry I made a mistake in the language pair.

I would translate that part of the sentence like this:

..., while I was the one that...

It looks like there is clearly a contrast in this sentence. One person received the money without doing much while the other did all the work (but did not get anything).

HTH :)

It's ok - I'd understood where you were coming from in the Dutch! 'Terwijl' would make perfect sense given the context.

kromme zin

Explanation:
De zin is erg onduidelijk en niet goed Nederlands. Gebaseerd op wat je al hebt zou ik de zin als volgt schijven:

"Het is gewoon onmogelijk dat X (als ?)enige (een) schadevergoeding ontvangen zou hebben, gewoon omdat hij (de/een) bediende was, terwijl ik de besprekingen voerde en wij beiden moesten tekenen bij betalingen."

"dat" kan in dit geval denk ik het beste vertaald worden met "terwijl"

"and because"

Explanation:
'Het is gewoon onmogelijk dat X enige schadevergoeding zou ontvangen hebben, gewoon omdat hij bediende was, dat ik de besprekingen voerde en het zo was dat wij beiden moesten tekenen bij betalingen

For X to have received any compensation is just impossible, simply because he was a servant(?) *and because* I engaged in negotiations and we both had to sign for payments

Split the sentence

Explanation:
It is impossible that X received compensation just because he is an employee.
I did the talks, the only thing we did together was signing the payments.
