Dutch term or phrase: Gevels & associated terms + Bouwbesluit
I have a sentence in which nearly all my 'gevel' problems come at once!
'De GEVELS zijn obgebouwd uit...binnenspouwbladen, een isolatielaag en een metselwerk BUITENGEVEL. De transparante GEVELDELEN bestaan uit... GEVELPROFIELEN.' What is a 'gevel' if 'buitenwand' also appears in the same paragraph?!
Also, what is the best way to translate 'het Bouwbesluit'?
Lucy Simpson
English translation:outside wall
Explanation:
Gevel consists of the outside walls of a house (so not the walls between rooms). Outside walls are made of two layers of bricks (or wood and bricks), one layer, which you cannot see, then some insulation material, and then around it the layer you can see when you stand outside.

profiel = guide post
spouwmuur = cavity wall
gevelelement = cladding unit
Bouwbesluit = Buildings Decree

(house) front or outer wall - building decree

Explanation:
"Gevel" can be the façade, what you see when you look at the house, then you use (house) front. But it can also be used as the actual outside wall or "buitenmuur", so the physical thing, then you apply "outer wall".

Gevel = outside/outer wall or gable

Explanation:
Hi Lucy,

I found the following:
punttopgevel = gable
voorgevel = front, façade
blinde gevel = dead face, dead front
terugspringende gevel = setback
gevelaanzicht = front elevation (on drawings)
gevelmuur = gable wall
gevelpui = window wall
gevelveld = pediment

vlaamse gevel
as in "gevel met dakkapel waarvan de muur in hetzelfde vlak ligt als de muur van de gevel zelf"
gable lucarne
(from Eurodicautom: http://eurodic.ip.lu/cgi-bin/edicbin/EuroDicWWW.pl)

but not specifically "buitengevel" nor "gevelproviel".

I hope this helps,
