Dutch term or phrase: langsscheepse plaatgangen
Er zijn 3 langsscheepse plaatgangen in de zijbeplating van het scheepsruim. Anyone???
anagram
English translation:fore and aft
Explanation:
The term 'langscheeps' as an adjective means 'fore and aft'. A langscheepse tank in a dive boat is a 'valance' but a langscheepsschot is a longitudinal bulkhead.
Zijbeplating is simply side plating.
Scheepsruim is a ship's hold. Take your pick of the above, depending on what type of boat it is you are dealing with.

longitudinal openings

Explanation:
Ships have to be built with permanent openings in the plating for ventilation. "Plaatgangen" are corridors between the plates which could be read es openings. I found longitudinal openings aswell. So I would translate the sentence as follows: There are 3 longitudinal openings in the side plating of the ship's hold.
You might want to check with your client though.

longitudinal plating course/run (?)

Explanation:
'langssheepse' ('along the length of the ship') is definitely 'longitudinal', but I don't think that 'plaatgang' is an opening. Have a look at /www.davinci.nl/rechten/projects/BVEnet2/BVEnet2/opdracht/te... Unfortunately, I can't give you a good English term. Maybe some English-speaking person has been so kind as to make a similar illustration!

3 walkways along the side of the hull

Explanation:
'Gangen' are where a person can walk
(we usually think of 'corridor').
'Plaatgangen' are just made of plates of steel. Is it really necessary to translate that?

'Langscheeps' means front to back
(or fore to aft on board ship) - but
'along' gives the same sense.

The hull is the outer body of the ship.
Good Luck.
