In straten en straatjes zijn bomen vaak het enig aanwezige openbaar groen.
Daarom is het essentieel dat bij het kiezen van bomen voor straten in de woon- en werkomgeving van tevoren goed uitgezocht wordt welke types in zo’n toch vaak beperkte ruimte tot volwassen exemplaren kunnen uitgroeien, zonder op den duur teveel licht weg te nemen.
Een tweede criterium is de verharding. Wanneer bomen niet in een (ruim) plantvak kunnen staan speelt de geschiktheid voor aanplant in gesloten verharding ook een grote rol.

Penso che il problema sia piuttosto l'espressione "gesloten verharding" che non unicamente "verharding".

In italiano la distinzione è tra "pavimentazioni (o aree pavimentate) impermeabili" (gesloten verharding) e "pavimentazioni (o aree pavimentate) filtranti (o) impermeabili".
