Other / Plato\'s theory about ideas
English term or phrase: Explanation needed for a whole sentence
Hello,

I need some explanation to this sentence, please.

Twenty- four centuries ago Plato talked about how ideas are basically free agents hanging out in the ether, and that sometimes (if we’re lucky) they tap us on the shoulder.

What I understand is that it means Plato sees the ideas as things that fly freely in space and that they may or may not come close enough to us so that they would "tap us on the shoulder".

I need some help with it.

Thanks!

Arabic translation:Almost right
Explanation:
the first part of your understanding "Plato sees the ideas as things that fly freely in space" is correct, but the rest talks about those times when we get lucky and a thought jumps to our attention (the same way that someone would tap on your shoulder to get your attention).
