dear all,

Can we translate "upwind buoy" طافية مسايرة لاتجاه الريح ?
I got that {upwind "adj." = في اتجاه الريح }

but I really can't get the picture. I can only get that it's something like a ballon put in race for racer not to go beyond it. Still, what is exactly "upwind buoy" ? How can we best translate this term?

Explanation:
Upwind and Downwind buoys : these marks depend on wind. An upwind buoy has to be tacked, and a downwind buoy has to be jibed.
