قاعدة الخبرات/ قاعدة المعرفة Explanation: I am sorry to post this after the fact. My purpose is to point out the difference between a database and a knowledge base. The answer provided in the previous postings as "da`irat ma'lumat" دائرة معلومات is actually the accepted translation for Database, which is essentially a structure for storing information that can be accessed by a keyword, or in the case of a relational database, by several keywords combined by a relation. A database can contain different types of things. For example, proz.com stores these terms, the answers, and the kudoz points, as well other data in a dabase that can be keyed by source language, destination language, term, difficulty, and/or a combination of other relevant keywords. Amazon.com on the other use their database to store things completely different, and so on. A knowledge base is a specific type of database that is used for storing knowledge or experience accumulated over time. One popular use of a knoweldge is the on-line self-help provided by many software and electronics vendors on the internet. The user accesses the knowledge base, types in their question, or likely phrases relevant to their question, and receives a list of answers whose relevance depend on the specifity of the question. They may also receive a list of threads of subjects that they can browse searching for their answer. If the question has not been answered before, a support person will eventually answer it, and the answer will become part of the growing knoweldge base. A simple example of a Knowledge base is the Proz technical support and bugs forum. A more elaborate example is Microsoft's Windows knowledge base listed below. Hope this still helps.
