see below Explanation: Kijk daar, waar de wind zo rustig is, nu hij is gaan slapen onder de bloembedden, daarginds, waar de zon zo fel is, dat de zonnebloemen niet weten naar welke kant ze zich moeten wenden, ja, daarginds, dat is het dorp van Esteban. There probably is an "official" Dutch translation of this as well though, as much of Marquez's work has been translated into Dutch. |

error (see below) Explanation: This is an amendment to my first answer. The sunflowers had me thinking "beds" was as in flowers beds. However I suspect it means just "beds", in which case you should change "bloembedden" in my translation to "bedden". Sorry about that. |

see below Explanation: The official translation reads like this: "KIJK DAAR, WAAR DE WIND NU ZO KALM IS DAT HIJ ONDER DE BEDDEN BLIJFT SLUIMEREN, DAAR, WAAR DE ZON ZO SCHITTERT DAT DE ZONNEBLOEMEN NIET WETEN NAAR WELKE KANT ZE ZICH MOETEN KEREN, JA, DAAR, DAAR LIGT HET DORP VAN ESTEBAN" Translated by Barber van de Pol in 'De Toppen van Latijns-Amerika' - verhaal: 'De mooiste drenkeling ter wereld', Meulenhoff Nederland bv, Amsterdam, 1984 - pg. 35 (ISBN: 90 290 17570) |
