zich bekeren Explanation: This is related to evangelical revival meetings in America in the early parts of the last century, when people attended meetings in large revival tents. If they "walked the sawdust trail", it meant that they came forward during such a meeting to accept Christ. The floor of these temporary tents was covered with sawdust, hence the expression. Since it is such an American event, I doubt that there is a Dutch idiom for it. I don't think that a literal translation would be very clear 9unless you added an explanation) since I don't think the sawdust habit existed in the Netherlands. But the meaning is "zich bekeren'or something along that line. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 21 mins (2004-06-03 09:48:32 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- that should be: (unless...) het pad der gelovigen Explanation: gokje, maar als jouw tekst over religie gaat (wat ik verwacht gezien je eerdere vraag over Sunday) denk ik dat het hier wel past. Ik neem aan dat je wat achtergrondinformatie zelf al hebt gezocht over Sunday en zijn preken. Maar anders vind je in de link wel meer info, o.a. over dat zaagsel.
