In Verginia heeft een bill of complaints for divorce dezelfde betekenis als een NL verzoekschrift tot echtscheiding.

Overigens wordt die Bill of complaint daarna betekend aan de echtgenoot:
"Service of Process: After the case is filed, the Clerk will send a copy of the Complaint, along with a cover sheet called a "Summons," to the sheriff of the jurisdiction where your spouse resides. It is the sheriff's job to serve the Complaint and the Summons on your spouse. "

Ergo: the Bill of Complaint maakt deel uit van de summons/dagvaarding, maar is dat dus niet.

hier is sprake van een civielrechtelijke zaak tussen een eiser en een gedaagde. "aanklacht" is een term uit het strafrecht en hier niet van toepassing.

De dagvaardingsprocedure is de meest gangbare procedure in het civiel recht. De procedure is geregeld in het Wetboek van Burgerlijke Rechtsvordering.
De procedure begint door het uitbrengen van een dagvaarding door een gerechtsdeurwaarder. In de dagvaarding geeft de eiser aan wat hij van de rechter verlangt, dat noemen we de eis.

neutral  sindy cremer: hm.. het KAN hier een dagvaarding zijn, mits deze is uitgevaardigd (dus ondertekend) door een deurwaarder. Het kan ook een aanklacht zijn. Aanklacht bestaat ook in burgerlijk recht, zie mijn ref, want dat gaat hier niet meer bij.
