A rhetorical question is a question which is really a dramatic way of making a statement; as it doesn't expect an answer, it's not really a true question.

I came across a lovely example on Iran TV the other day:
شما کجا، ما کجا؟

This was said by a poor family that had gone to visit a rich family to ask for the hand of the daughter in marriage (خواستگاری، امر خیر). When a representative of the family said شما کجا، ما کجا؟, she wasn’t expecting an answer but was just admitting that there was an enormous difference between the two families in terms of wealth. However, she then went on to make the point that the prospective couple loved each other.

استفهام تأكيدي كه دكتر شميسا از آن به عنوان استفهام تقريري ياد مي كند پرسشي است كه مخاطب به درستي و صحت قول گوينده اقرار مي كند . در اين نوع پرسش صورت سؤال منفي ذكر مي گردد و جواب مثبت است؛يعني با جواب بله مخاطب به درستي سخن اقرار مي كنيم وتأكيد مي كنيم كه حتماً چنين خواهد بود .

در استفهام انكاري پرسش به صورت مثبت مطرح مي شود وجواب آن منفي است ؛ يعني هدف نويسنده اين است كه خواننده را به رد سخن و مطلب وادار و او را با خود همراه و هم عقيده كند واگر جمله را به صورت خبري بياوريم جمله منفي مي شود
