I must say, Maiju, that the connotation of \"tearing at\" someone is used only in cases where the person (or animal) is being restrained. The dog presumably is being held on a leash, otherwise the expression used would be \"bounded towards me\" or \"leapt at me\". The tearing refers to \"tearing himself free:\" from the clutches of someone, or in this case the leash.

disagree  Alfa Trans (X): it is interesting to hear your opinion, but as I understand this I think "to tear" is the same as "to race" which we can even say about people, e.g. Sam was late, so he came tearing downstairs, grabbed a cup of tea and left.
