English term or phrase: junior venture companies
We have a lot of good junior venture companies in this country that need the visibility, that need the marketplace, that need to have an opportunity to raise capital...

French translation:jeunes entreprises à risque
Explanation:
I found the English expression under the definition of risk on the "Commission des valeurs mobilières du Québec" web page and then went to the French version and this is the equivalent they use. They have a very complete web site, where you might be able to find alot of the terms you need.

Thank you for all the answers. I prefer this one, because the document is destined to a French-Canadian market. Being French Canadian myself, I do not like anglicisms or using English words in a French context, when a proper French expression exists.

"start-ups"

Explanation:
I like the answer provided by mead, but if you're translating for people in France, they love to use the term "start-ups", unlike our French canadian friends, who hate anglicisms.:)
