English term

way

English to French Other Business/Commerce (general) Objectifs SMART
"Your objectives must be attainable. This means your objectives lay within your control or ability influence. Still, attainable goals are not too easy and should stretch you to perform in new and valuable ways."

En fait c'est la fin de la phrase qui me pose problème "perform in new and valuable ways"

Merci de votre aide !

Oct 6, 2014 09:10: Emanuela Galdelli changed "Term asked" from "way (here)" to "way"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): Yvonne Gallagher

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

@ccinnyc And your comment shows the difference. Please, leave it there! It is useful.
Peter LEGUIE Dec 24, 2012:
How about "originale" or "novatrice" for "new"?
cc in nyc Dec 24, 2012:
Oh sorry... It's not the tense that is wrong; it's the verb that is wrong! So ignore my previous comment, which I will delete.
It should be "to lie" in the English, not "to lay"... Bad English. :-(
cc in nyc Dec 24, 2012:
"Lay" exige un COD... ...mais il n'y en a pas dans le texte anglais.

"If you exclude the meaning "to tell an untruth" and just focus on the setting/reclining meaning of lay and lie, then the important distinction is that lay requires a direct object and lie does not. So you lie down on the sofa (no direct object), but you lay the book down on the table (the book is the direct object)."

Voici "lie, lies, lying, lied": http://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/lie?show...
avec exemple: "to be or rest (with) ⇒ the ultimate decision lies with you"
Germaine Dec 24, 2012:
Isn't it "lay" (lays laying laid) as in "Ce qui veut dire que vos objectifs s'étendent à..." ou "couvrent..."?
Virginie T (asker) Dec 24, 2012:
In my source text, the verb is "lay" not "lie" but I cannot check it until Wednesday and I thought It was strange here... Thank you Tony.
Tony M Dec 24, 2012:
'lay'? Are you sure you do'nt have a typo there in your source text? The sudden change to the past tense with 'lay' instead of 'lie' seems highly curious to me.

On pourait écrire "agir de façon nouvelle et efficace" mais ce n'est pas très idiomatique.
En reformulant on obtient
... à agir différemment et avec efficacité
C'est bien mieux, non?

de façons créatives et utiles

Vos objectifs doivent être réalistes, ce qui veut dire qu'ils s'incrivent dans votre champ de contrôle ou d'habiletés. Néanmoins, "réaliste" ne veut pas dire trop facile et vos objectifs devraient vous amener à dépasser votre zone de confort de façons créatives et utiles.
