English term or phrase: material property-dependent
The so-called 'old German method' of Hewlet and Randolph (1988) is based on the 'arching effect' in granular, free-draining soil. The authors carried out simple model tests on which they based a material property-dependent, full 3D-calculation theory that considers the stability of a 3D arched region of sand. The so-called 'new German method', described in EBGEO (2006) is not yet taken into account in this paper.
