entraxe de tubes
One might use 'pas' as the more usual translation of 'pitch' (see previous glossary entries) — but I think that, since 'tubes' do have an 'axe', 'entraxe' is probably more appropriate here.

Max de Montaigne
: Probablement car il est question un peu plus loin de "spacing". Le vissage des tuyaux n'est peut-être pas le plus important dans ce paragraphe.

Discussion
Personally, I'd use 'pitch' for narrow things that have a clear centre-line, and 'spacing' for (possibly fatter) things that don't. In my book, with 'pitch', one isn't so concerned with the actual thickness of the things themselves — think of narrow IC pins on a 0.1" pitch.
However, I fully agree that people do often use the terms interchangeably, with greater or lesser accuracy.

Others examples too - is it just to avoid repetition? A dangerous practice in technical translation!
