Trunions/Power Rollers
Trunions are necessary and practical
“Drive” trunion vs “Idler” trunion
Idler trunion could lock up
AS EFFICIENT AND PRACTICAL AS TRUNIONS ARE IN OUR BUSINESS, THEY CAN ALSO BE VERY DANGEROUS IF NOT OPERATED PROPERLY OR IF THE OPERATOR IS CARELESS.
A TRUNION SETUP IS DESIGNED SO THAT ONE SET OF TRUNIONS ARE THE “DRIVE” WHEELS AND THE OTHER SET IS THE “IDLER” END.
THE IDLER END TURNS FREELY TO SUPPORT THE TOWER AS THE DRIVE END ACTUALLY TURNS THE TOWER.
THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT THE WHEELS ON THE IDLER TRUNION COULD LOCK UP AND STOP TURNING CAUSING THE WHEELS ON THE DRIVE TRUNION TO “WALK” THE TOWER UP AND OVER THE TRUNION AND ONTO THE FLOOR.
AS THE TRUNION OPERATOR IT IS IMPORTANT TO MONITOR THE IDLER END.
IF THE IDLER END STOPS TURNING THE DRIVE TRUNION WILL CONTINUE TO TURN AND THE TOWER WILL WALK UP AND OVER THE IDLER END WHEELS THAT ARE NOW NO LONGER TURNING.
