English term or phrase: scaling
Bonjour à toutes et à tous,

Je traduis un manuel relatif à un adoucisseur d'eau.

Je me trouve dans les réglages.

Je cherche la traduction du terme « scaling ».

Contexte :

"The last partial screen displays settings regarding the sensors:
***Scaling pressure*** sensor at inlet
***Scaling pressure*** sensor at outlet
***Scaling conductivity*** reading"

Merci beaucoup.

entartrage

Explanation:
scale dans le sens d'écaille, i.e. ce qui se forme sur les parois des chauffe-eau, en français le tartre. Scaling i.e. la formation de tartre se nomme l'entartrage.

Example sentence(s):
  • Dissolved calcium and magnesium salts are primarily responsible for most scaling in pipes and water heaters and cause numerous problems in laundry, kitchen, and bath.
  • Les sels de dureté représentent la principale source des phénomènes d’entartrage. Ceci s’explique aisément par la réduction de la solubilité de ces minéraux dans l’eau sous l’effet de l’augmentation

disagree  Daryo: small fly in the ointment: what exactly would be a "Scaling pressure sensor" - a device measuring "la pression de entartrage" = ??? // does sound like a reasonable guess, but doesn't fit with what you can find about "scaling pressure sensors"!

-> SCALING (entartrage) decreases pressure in pipes, so it would be normal to detect the presence of scaling when pressure goes down or flow rate (débit) goes down. manomètre d'entartrage would do the job (out of scope of this request)

agree  B D Finch: I was just about to post the same answer, but you beat me to it! However, I think you misunderstood that this isn't "détartrage" of the water, but of the sides or pipework of the water-softener itself, which is done under pressure.

disagree  Daryo: wouldn't that be "descaling"? more important: what exactly would be a "Scaling pressure sensor" - a device measuring "la pression de détartrage" =???

neutral  Tony M: That would more usually translated 'scaled', but 'scaling' used in this sense (i.e. as suggested by Daryo) would require a different translation.

That is all nice but, while you've provided the transfer function, y = 0.1437x + 1.8399...

You haven't provided the scaling of the pressure transducer. I.E.

say:

0 to 20 PSI = 0 to 5mV

0 to 50 PSI = 0 to 50mV

0 to 100 PSI = 0 to 50mV

I don't really care about the transfer function as, I can calculate that knowing the PSI and output voltage ranges using Y = mX + b. True, the transfer function that you provided in the form of Y = mX +b but, it makes no statement about the working PSI and output voltage ranges of the pressure transducer.

Provide the PSI and output voltage range of the pressure transducer and it is relatively easy to convert ADC values to usable PSI readings.
