English term

bono

English to French Other Linguistics idiom
I'm working on the translation of a TV show called "Green Wing". During a funeral, a character says "I've got a bono the size of that coffin". I have no idea what "bono" could refer to. Thanks for your help.

j'ai la gaule

From your situation, I imagine this is just a transcription error for "boner".

Usually, when a man says "I've got a boner..." it means they are aroused, have an erection

He is indeed aroused if it's the size of the coffin!

I've no idea if this could conceivably fit in your funeral situation (perhaps he's just seen the stunning young widow of the dear departed...?), but that's the only interpretation I can make of it.

BTW, it might have been safest to err on the side of caution and mark this question as "potentially offensive'!

There are of course several other slang ways of expressing the same idea in FR!

Efharisto, Assimina!
agree sylviab : yes indeed, for ex. "Je tiens une de ces triques..." BTW is there a way to mark the answer "pot. off." when the asker wasn't to know?

Thanks, Sylvia! Not AFAIK, except to ask a mod; but in any case, the harm's already done, once e-mails notifications have been sent out.
