Not exactly, the "relief during an attack" as you say is controlled by the "antiasthmatique". But conversely, an "antiasthmatic" is a specific class of drug which is not an anti-inflamatory :) Same confusion applies, in a different field, for antalgiques and analgésiques.

Quite, that's the whole problem! Astonishingly, but apparently, FR does not have a single term that can be used to encapsulate this essential aspect of 'relief during an attack' — and the absence of that notion possibly also explains the absence of understanding of the issues; though I would have hoped my pneumologue would have been a bit more up-to-date in these matters :-(

OK thanks; the point is that using "anti-inflammatoire, antiasthmatique" (with a coma) means that two distinct pharmacological classifications are used and this means two distinct signaling pathways and targets of cource: b2-agonist and corticoid.

C'est exactement ça !
Symbicort veut que leur nouveau produit soit à la fois PREVENTER et RELIEVER — but my pneumologue said that's rubbish (!), it's only 'yet another' steroid and as such belongs firmly in the 'preventer' camp.
But as you say, the FR seems to void the 2 terms used in EN — indeed, when I've sought to use them my doctors have not understood and I've had to explain rather longwindedly... when I do, they then see the sense of it: when you're in the middle of an attack, you just ask for your 'reliever', instead of a lengthy FR explanation (by which time I'd be dead!)
And it's exactly because of this that I feel it is vital to address this point: if it is labelled as 'just' an anti-inflammatory, that would limit it to the wrong category; whereas as you say, calling it an 'antiasthmatique' is a bit scary.
I suppose in essence it needs to be an 'anti-inflammatoire antiasthmatique'...

Juste pour compliquer un peu la question, mais en ligne avec l'observation de Tony: on traite l'asthme avec un beta2-mimétique (antiasthmatique) pour un effet rapide mais aussi (cas graves, traitement de fond) avec un anti-inflammatoire (corticoide): le anglo saxons tendent à utiliser "reliever inhaler" pour les antiasthmatiques (les inhalateurs "en botte".....). Juste Tony ? Cela dit, traduire "Anti-inflammatory Reliever" par "antiasthmatique " me fait peur.....il faudrait au moins savoir ce qu'il contient JM ?
