Barter snake

English to French translations [PRO]
English term or phrase: Barter snake
Non-poisonous black and yellow-striped snake that inhabits the pits of Narcisse, north of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and other regions of North America and Europe. I'm not sure of the right name in French (serpent de la famille des colubridés dont fait partie la couleuvre). Serait-ce la couleuvre à anneaux?
Merci de votre aide!

thamnophis

Explanation:
This is what I found in Termium under «garter snake», which I think is the term you want, not «barter snake»:

garter snake*a*CORRECT

DEF*Any of a genus of harmless, usually striped snakes closely related to water snakes...They are probably called "garter snakes" because they resemble striped garters... There are 15 species of garter snakes, making up the genus Thamnophis of the family Colubridae, order Squamata. The common garter snake (Thamnophis sirtalis) is one of the commonest of all snakes throughout its range, which extends from Canada to Mexico and from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean...

FR
thamnophis*b*CORRECT, MASC
