Reference: Curve terminology

Reference information:
"Proposal curve: A curve submitted with the proposal that Gideon [van Niekerk] named ‘cosmetic’ curve. This is a predictive curve that the supplier will likely be able to demonstrate during the test. Keep in mind, (if this is a highly engineered pump) when you witness a test, that pump has been pre-tested 2 or 3 times before you arrive to tune it. Depending on how you write the spec, and any penalties for performance, a supplier will not submit a curve that they cannot demonstrate given the suffering they will have if any penalties are enforced."

"Capacity Curve: Any curve, proposal or tested, that predicts the ability of the pump to intersect with the system curve. This means the pump has the capacity to do the job IF the system curve demands it to do so. It does not mean the pump will run at this point. It only means it has the capacity to run anywhere on this curve of you need it. It is up to you to decide how accurate you think all these curves are (proposal / test / system). In my pump classes, I use the term ‘Proposal Capacity Curve’ and ‘Tested Capacity Curve’ to keep the word Capacity in the heads of students which forces them to mentality understand that one MUST match a capacity (pump capability) to a need (the system curve)."
