intern vs. house officer [same] Arztpraktikant Explanation: Both terms are the same; they are pre-registration grades. Since 2005 this has been called Foundation House Officer 1 (FHO1) in Northern Ireland. SHO however is a registration grade and similar to Assistenzarzt. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 38 mins (2010-12-02 12:44:51 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Very similar training structure to the UK (i.e. as it was in the UK prior to 2005): "The Medical Council requires every medical student to complete a one-year internship, known as Pre-Registration House Officer (PRHO) training" http://www.postgrad.ie/Careers/Medical_Healthcare/Medicine.h... See also here for Northern Ireland/ UK situation http://www.dh.gov.uk/assetRoot/04/07/95/32/04079532.pdf -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 44 mins (2010-12-02 12:50:45 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Addendum: The Republic of Ireland has a very similar training structure to the UK (i.e. as it was in the UK prior to 2005). |
